Supporting supplementary schools across England

Supplementary schools have arguably the greatest potential for supporting and engaging black and minority ethnic families in deprived communities. Being able to work with children and young people, and their families, from the age of statutory education can be crucial in ensuring that they do not experience the disproportionate levels of disengagement and underachievement that is prevalent amongst some BME groups.
Like many community groups, achieving financial stability is a huge challenge, placing at threat much needed services that celebrate and positively reinforce cultural identity whilst also delivering against the core national curriculum.
We are delighted to be working with The Paul Hamlyn Foundation, within their Education and Learning strand, to understand various models for sustainability for the sector to then implement over the next eighteen months.
