Coaching
When Kita developed The Leadership Catalyst support programme, she was aiming to provide a safe space for socially driven leaders to enjoy a more fulfilling leadership experience whilst maximising their impact in their respective social justice fields.
Kita was concerned at how the pandemic had exacerbated existing challenges for these leaders and knew those risks were multiplied for those who were under-represented in the charity space. Many of our clients were experiencing burnout and worsened mental health, struggling with the pressure that comes from the unique position of sitting in-between a board of trustees and as leader of their executive team with expectations from both sides to provide reassurance, answers, certainty and inspire confidence during such an uncertain time.
It struck us that these leaders were becoming more insular, with fewer opportunities to meet with and learn from like-minded peers to share their experiences and support mutual learning, only adding to the feeling of isolation. So, for 90 minutes every fortnight, Kita holds an intimate, confidential and safe space to explore collectively the burning issues that were sapping their energy, frustrating their efforts and compromising their values. They commit to actions to implement back in the workplace, share our results and celebrate our wins.
We have two main cohorts each year. In response to popular demand, we now offer TLC for Senior Leaders in June and, for CEOs, we start each October.
Our sessions are planned to support our participants to shift from a feeling of a sluggish start to the week and collapsing over the finishing line of the day to being more energised day after day with enough in the tank to enjoy and be fully present for life outside of work.

About Kita Ikoku
Kita is the Founding Director of Clear Thinking Consultancy and a Life & Personal Performance Coach, accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
Although initially qualifying as a coach in 2015 to support CEOs of charities through change programmes through our consultancy offer, she began 1-2-1 executive coaching with senior leaders during the pandemic after being approached by two trustee boards.
Since then, she has been coaching senior leaders, particularly those who have protected characteristics and are under-represented in influencing in the charity sector, to move towards ambitious personal, life and career goals, lead high performing teams and maximise impact through their work.
Kita supports incredible leaders to set and move towards personal, life and career goals that excite them and to maximise their impact through authentic and courageous leadership.
She characterises her approach to coaching as structured and process-driven with a focus on creating a space safe for deep reflection and listening, maximising the use of silence and careful questioning to challenge the clients’ thinking.
This approach comes across in feedback from them, some of which is highlighted in what our clients say.
“It has exceeded my expectations. I knew it would be a space for discussions that affected us as under-represented leaders, I didn’t really envisage the conversations being as deep or as thoughtful as they are. I didn’t really think I’d come away from it thinking so differently about certain aspects of my role, how I deliver it, where I see it going, and how I see change. I’m questioning a lot of things personally.”
“I feel much more centred, I don’t feel alone. To hear [other’s] perspectives and challenges, they are no different. They are not exactly the same, but they are still the same issues. That has been really important.”
“I enjoy it so much to have that space to talk and find it really valuable. It’s diarised in and prioritised, and it’s felt like prioritising myself.”
“It’s been a space [in which] I’ve not had to worry. And to connect to the work with an emotional and spiritual centre. It’s calm, it’s really reflective, it’s really in the moment.”
“The Leadership Catalyst is so needed in the sector …There’s lots of things for new leaders, but what about the old hats? We are at a place where we are going to move into those really high impact roles, and there is really no diversity there.”
“I really respect the way in which you invest in getting to know us as individuals and not just as a group. It gives a sense of genuine care and feels very personable but, at the same time, structured with a clear process.”
“Every conversation has had a positive outcome for me. If it hasn’t been thought provoking, it’s been provoking me into act on.”
“Entering coaching, I found myself at a pivotal moment in my professional journey. From the outset, Kita created a nurturing environment where I felt seen, heard, and supported. Her deep understanding of the intersectionality of race and career allowed me to address sensitive issues with confidence, knowing I was in a judgment-free zone. Kita’s ability to blend cultural sensitivity with expert coaching techniques was remarkable. Through insightful questioning and thoughtful guidance, she helped me uncover my core values, identify strengths, and set ambitious yet achievable goals. The results were transformative – I gained clarity on my career trajectory and cultivating a healthier work-life balance.”
“As an experienced professional with more than 30 years’ experience of multi-disciplinary practice… it was essential for me to identify someone who was able to not only meet my expectations, but to challenge and decouple assumptions that I may have acquired throughout my professional life. Key to this task was a grasp of the Black British experience which is both nuanced and very complex to unravel. Initially, my coaching goal was to clarify my professional offer and brand positioning within the sector, with some additional insights into fundraising, financial administration, and business development. [Kita was] able to provide so much more by taking a holistic approach to ‘seeing me’ in my entirety, and reflecting this back using a depth of understanding and bespoke techniques that invited me to explore a world outside of my lived experience. The process was at times challenging, frustrating, educational, healing, and ultimately, completely transformative… I haven’t looked back since.”
“I found that coaching with Kita gave me the space to reflect clearly on my day-to-day work, and that her empathy and experience provided a fantastic environment for me to explore how I could grow as a leader. It allowed me to identify barriers, both real and imagined, to completing my work in the time and to the standard I wanted to, and to identify small changes I could make, and practical steps I could take to overcome these. Kita’s style was perfect for me – she was compassionate and sensitive, whilst still being focused on returning to the questions I had and the support I needed. Anyone considering coaching should try it as a tool for critical reflection and personal development.”
